1/24/2010 - Old Movies and a Weekend indoors

Now that school is in full effect, I have absolutely no desire to go out anymore. Over the break I went out and partied alot. I would be lying if I said I never had fun. In fact, it was the complete opposite. I would have alot of fun galavanting around with my buddies. So why do I find myself wanting to absoultely nothing but sitting around and watching movies???? Well, one of the main reasons is school. For the first time in a few semesters I have what I consider early classes. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays I have classes before noon. The Tuesday and Thursday class I can handle. The Friday class is a bit tougher to deal with. To many people, an eleven o'clock class is hardly anything to gripe about. However, I have always been of the belief that Thursday evening is the start of the weekend. Because of this flawed thinking, I have a propensity to stay up rather late Thursday evening and not get enough sleep. On top of all that, I'm still playing "sleep catch up" for the rest of the week. So, Friday night is very much a sleep night.

Saturday night is a little different. Now that school has started, I find myself waking up fairly early. Because of this, I have been able to start my day early. Sheena and I are able to do activities during the day instead of late at night. It is important to know that when Sheena and I go out we tend go places where we can walk around. This drains a significant amount of energy. By evening time, we are fairly tired. Also, I try to save Sundays for homework, and errands. I learned over the break that these things are impossible to do when dealing with a homework. With all that said, it no secret as to why this is a primary factor in me not wanting go out during the weekends.

The second factor is my girlfriend, Sheena. As I stated before, I went out quite a bit over the Christmas Break and part of me feels guilty. So, I elect to stay with her most nights. Sheena is very much a home-body and presented with the choice to go out or stay in, will always side with the later.

Lately, all we have been doing is taking advantage of the movie channels and Video On Demand features on her cable box. Last week, we burned through an entire season of Dexter. This week, we watched Twilight Zone: The Movie, Pineapple Express, Bad Boys, and our favorite guilty pleasure Freshman Year. (For those of you not familiar with Freshman Year, it is a late 90's/early 2000's reality show about 9th graders at a New Mexico high school). I find it very intriguing to watch films with other people. I consider myself an avid film aficiando. Not to sound prentious, but I believe I view film in a completely different way then most. Sheena is no exception and it's one of the reasons why I love her. Recentely, I've been trying to get her to watch some of my old favorites. I love seeing the look of wonder in her eye when a plot twist occurs, or when something really exciting happens. It is also facsinating to hear her interpretation of the film as a whole. Our post-film conversations is truly the highlight of any of our stay at home movie dates. . . . .

Every weekend, my Facebook news feed is populated with stories of partying, and painting the town red. Part of me feels like I should be doing these kinds of things, but I have come to realize that that just isn't me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy going places and perusing town during the late night hours but I love staying in. There seems to be a very negative stigma about staying indoors on the weekends. I may tackle this subject in the future but right now . . . . I need to study.
