02/09/2010 - First test of the semester.

This morning I had the "pleasure" of taking my first exam of the semester. The subject was intermediate accounting and their was a great deal of hype surrounding the exam. In the week leading up to the exam, my professor made it a point to emphasize how difficult and time consuming the exam will be. She has gone on record stating "The proctor will be prying the test from your hands while you try to jot down last minute answers." I didn't let this scare. I couldn't say the same for the rest of the class.

Exam Prep

I have a system while preparing for an exam. It mostly consists of loud, in your face music and multiple cram sessions wherein I review quizzes, homeworks, handouts, lectures, and anything else I deem important, up until the time the exam is distrubuted. This study system that I have used over the years has been hit or miss. Sometimes it would work for me but other times it would fail miserably. The system also has a tendency to have me feeling jitterey and anxious while taking the exam. This time I wanted to have a less anxiety ladened exam. In order to do this I started my test prep early. Two weeks ago, in fact. During this time, I did the homework, reviewed quizzes, read the book, and everything else I would usually study. I did all of the same things I would normally do to study only this time, I would spread it out over an extended period of time, instead of cramming it in a two day period. This proved to be an excellent strategy. The night before, I slept in a calm zen state. When I awoke, I was ready to take the exam.

Exam Postmortem Analysis
I'm not going to lie. The test was fairly dificult than I had anticipated, however, it was not completely unmanageable. The first part consisted of multiple choice questions. I struggled with a few of these because I did not allocate a great deal of study time to them. The multiple choice questions aren't worth very much so it won't destroy my exam grade if I miss a few. The second part of the exam consisted of problems. For the most part, I breezed through a majority of the problems. I did get caught up on one problem in particular but I recovered towards the end. There were probably about two questions I completly blanked on but I'm not too worried about it. If anything I should get partical credit. It took me about fifty five minutes to complete the exam, which was great because I had time to review some of my answers. I didn't catch any mistakes which may or may not be good. All in all, I feel I did pretty well. I think I may get a high C or a Mid to low level B.
Best Case - 85%
Worst Case - 73%
Most Likely - 79%
My next test is scheduled for next week and it will be in Finance.
