"The Girlfriend Test" is a short story I started today. It is inspired by a conversation/incident that happened between my girlfriend and me the other night. Basically it centers around the concept of the girlfriend test. Every guy in a relationship goes through this.
The girlfriend test occurs when a male subject is really into something or comes across something new that he is highly interested in. The guy may or may not be sure of the how "cool" "hip", "interesting:, etc. this new activity is so he may administer a girlfriend test. This requires exposing the female counterpart to the activity. The female counterpart acts as an objective party and will pass judgement on said activity. The judgement may or may not determine if the activity should be continued, however, if the judgement is overwhelmingly negative, the male subject should cease and desists said activity. This test can also be performed on first dates to determine compatibility with a prospective female.
The story will have be about relationships and how they really work. I recently watched the movie "The Ugly Truth" (not my choice by the way) and it made me realize how much I dislike typical romantic comedies. It may come to no surprise that I hated this movie. I don't have anything against romantic comedies per say but I would rather watch something that portrays male and female interaction more realistically. It is possible to make a romantic comedy that is relatively realistic and funny at the same time. A few examples are "The Puffy Chair" "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and from what I've heard "(500) Days of Summer." This story I'm writting is my response to the typical romantic comedy.
I plan on writing more stories that are similar to this. I really would like to write more but most of my ideas are of the high concept variety and that is extremely hard to reproduce. The story should be done soon and I do plan on finishing this one. I will post it as soon as it is done.
Until next time
